Pop icon Britney Spears has responded publicly to her ex-husband Kevin Federline after excerpts and interviews related to his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, began circulating online. The book, which is set for release on October 21, 2025, delves into their past relationship, their marriage, and her bond with their sons, Sean Preston (20) and Jayden James (19).
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the 43-year-old Grammy-winning singer expressed frustration over how she continues to be portrayed negatively in the media. “I’m tired of being painted as the bad one while others make money off my pain,” Spears wrote in a heartfelt post addressing her ex’s comments.
“If you really love someone, you don’t help them by humiliating them,” she continued, accusing Federline of using her past struggles for publicity. Spears described his recent interviews as “manipulative,” claiming his emotional displays on camera were carefully staged. “What’s scary is he’s convincing. It blows my mind the moments he stops before he cries — are you serious?” she added.
Spears also compared Federline’s memoir to her own 2023 autobiography, The Woman in Me, which chronicled her conservatorship battle and personal journey. “I know his book will sell loads more than mine,” she wrote, before touching on the anger and resentment she says Federline still harbors.
“If you really love someone, then you don’t help them by humiliating them. What scared me was how serious and angry he got — it’s way worse than people can imagine. The boy hates me, and it is deep anger to say the things he is saying.”
Beyond her ex-husband’s remarks, Spears reflected on her strained family relationships, particularly with her mother, Lynne Spears, and father, Jamie Spears, who controlled her conservatorship for over a decade. “They treat me exactly the way my father used to. They secretly love to cast me out and make me feel isolated,” she wrote.
Despite the ongoing public scrutiny, Britney revealed that she’s shifting her focus toward personal healing. The “Toxic” singer shared that she recently bought a mini greenhouse, describing it as part of her therapy. “I’m focusing on recovery, peace, and self-growth,” she said.
Looking ahead, Spears hinted at new projects, revealing plans to explore acting, podcasting, and writing monthly columns. However, she made it clear that these ventures won’t be centered on her personal life. “People are never supposed to talk about controversy or shocking topics,” she added, suggesting she’s ready to move forward creatively on her own terms.
