Why recent Lollywood films are not doing business?

Lollywood films are a significant part of the Pakistani culture and entertainment industry. They are produced in Lahore, the second-largest city of Pakistan, and are mostly in Urdu and Punjabi languages. Lollywood films have a long history that dates back to the pre-partition era when Lahore was a major center of filmmaking in the subcontinent. However, in recent years, Lollywood films have faced many challenges and difficulties that have affected their quality and popularity.

One of the main reasons why Lollywood films are not doing business is the lack of investment and resources. Lollywood films are often made on low budgets, with poor production values, outdated equipment, and inexperienced crew. This results in films that are not appealing to the modern audience, who are used to high-quality visuals and sound effects. Moreover, Lollywood films have to compete with the influx of foreign films, especially from Bollywood and Hollywood, that have better marketing and distribution networks.

Another reason why Lollywood films are not doing business is the lack of originality and innovation. Lollywood films tend to rely on formulaic plots, stereotypical characters, and clichéd dialogues. They often copy or remake successful films from other industries, without adding any value or creativity. This makes Lollywood films predictable and boring and fails to attract the attention and interest of the viewers. Furthermore, Lollywood films have to deal with the issues of censorship and social norms, that limit their scope and expression.

However, despite these challenges, Lollywood films have also shown some signs of improvement and revival. Some Lollywood films have managed to break the stereotypes and conventions, and have explored new genres and themes. For example, Dukhtar (2014) is a drama-thriller that deals with the issue of child marriage; Mah e Mir (2016) is a biographical film that pays tribute to the legendary poet Mir Taqi Mir; Maalik (2016) is an action-crime film that exposes the corruption and politics in Pakistan; Na Maloom Afraad (2014) is a comedy-crime film that depicts the struggles of three ordinary men in Karachi; Actor in Law (2016) is a comedy-drama film that features the late Bollywood actor Om Puri as a lawyer.

These films have received critical acclaim and commercial success, both at home and abroad. They have also showcased the talent and potential of Lollywood actors, directors, writers, and technicians. They have proved that Lollywood films can be entertaining, engaging, and meaningful if they are made with passion and professionalism.

Therefore, Lollywood films are not doing business because they face many challenges and difficulties, but they also have some opportunities and possibilities for improvement and revival. Lollywood films need more investment and resources, more originality and innovation, more freedom and diversity, and more support and appreciation from the audience and the industry. If these factors are achieved, Lollywood films can regain their glory and popularity and can make a positive impact on Pakistani culture and society.
