Indian actor Disha Patani says she is looking for more challenging and meaningful acting opportunities as she moves into a new phase of her Bollywood career.
A decade after making her Hindi film debut with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Patani says she no longer wants to be associated with just one type of character or screen image.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor reflected on how much she has learned since entering the film industry. She described her early career as a period of discovery, when she was learning everything from working on film sets to understanding how to perform in front of the camera.
Patani made her Bollywood debut in 2016 with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, in which she played Priyanka Jha. The film became an important early milestone in her career and helped introduce her to a wider audience.
Over the years, Patani said she has developed a deeper understanding of acting and feels more confident about making creative decisions. However, she does not want that experience to make her too comfortable.
The actor believes that continuing to learn is an important part of her growth. She wants every new project to present something that challenges her rather than simply repeating what she has already done.
Patani also emphasized that she does not want to reach a stage where she assumes she already knows everything about acting. For her, preparation, uncertainty and the willingness to improve remain essential parts of the creative process.
As she looks toward the next decade of her career, Patani wants to move beyond roles where glamour or physical appearance are the primary focus.
She has expressed interest in psychologically demanding stories, character-driven thrillers and action projects that allow her to explore more complicated personalities.
The actor also wants to avoid being placed into a single category by audiences or filmmakers. Rather than continuing with one familiar image, she hopes to experiment with different characters and storytelling styles.
Patani’s ambitions also extend beyond a single language or genre. She wants to collaborate with filmmakers from different creative backgrounds and explore opportunities across multiple film industries.
Her approach reflects a broader shift in the career of an actor who entered Bollywood as a young performer and has since built experience across romantic dramas, action films and commercial cinema.
More recently, Patani appeared in Awarapan 2, an action thriller that also stars Emraan Hashmi. The film was released on August 13, 2026, adding another action-oriented project to her filmography.
With a decade of experience behind her, Disha Patani now appears focused on using that experience to take greater creative risks. Her desire to explore complex characters and different genres could open a new chapter in her career, particularly as she looks for roles that challenge both her abilities and audience expectations.
