Italy Cancels Kanye West and Travis Scott Concerts Over Security Concerns

Italian authorities have cancelled two highly anticipated concerts featuring American rappers Kanye West, also known as Ye, and Travis Scott, citing concerns related to public order, security, and the possibility of protests.

The performances were scheduled to take place in July at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia, a northern Italian city known for hosting major music events. Travis Scott was set to perform on July 17 as part of the Pulse of Gaia Festival, while Ye was scheduled to appear the following day.

The decision was announced by local prefect Salvatore Angieri, who ordered the cancellation after evaluating security risks associated with the events. Officials said the expected influx of tens of thousands of spectators within a short period of time raised concerns about crowd management and public safety.

Authorities also noted that requests for intervention had been submitted by consumer rights organization CODACONS and representatives of the Jewish community in Modena and Reggio Emilia. Particular concerns were reportedly raised regarding Ye’s planned appearance.

Ye has faced controversy in recent years over a series of antisemitic remarks and public statements. Several European venues and event organizers have previously cancelled or postponed his performances following criticism from advocacy groups and public officials.

Meanwhile, Travis Scott has continued to face scrutiny over concert safety issues since the tragic crowd crush at the 2021 Astroworld Festival in Houston, which resulted in multiple fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Although the Italian decision was not directly linked to Scott’s past events, authorities cited overall public order considerations when evaluating the concerts.

Officials further pointed to the cancellation of other Ye performances across Europe and what they described as a concrete risk of demonstrations or disruptions surrounding the planned events. The close timing of both concerts was also considered a factor in the final decision.

Earlier this year, the United Kingdom denied entry to Ye, while planned performances in several European countries faced obstacles, postponements, or cancellations. Despite these challenges, the rapper continues to perform in countries where authorities and organizers have allowed his appearances to proceed.

Reports indicate that Ye remains scheduled to perform in Istanbul and is also expected to hold concerts in the Netherlands in the coming weeks. Dutch officials have stated that there are currently no legal grounds to prevent his entry into the country.

Neither Ye, Travis Scott, nor the event organizers had issued an immediate public response following the announcement. The cancellation has nevertheless generated significant discussion among fans and industry observers, highlighting the ongoing debate surrounding controversial artists, public safety, and freedom of expression at large-scale entertainment events.

As authorities across Europe continue to assess security risks associated with major concerts, the decision in Italy underscores the growing role of public order considerations in determining whether high-profile events move forward.
