Mirzapur The Movie has been cleared for theatrical release with an ‘A’ certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), following several changes requested by the certification body.
The makers agreed to modifications involving intimate scenes, dialogues and certain words used in the film. Despite the edits, the movie will remain more than three hours long.
According to the censor certificate, the final approved runtime of Mirzapur The Movie is 197 minutes and 19 seconds.
The CBFC Revising Committee reviewed the film and issued the final certification after directing the filmmakers to make a number of changes.
Several dialogue-related modifications were ordered during the certification process. Four cuss words were muted at different points in the movie, while six other abusive expressions were replaced with alternative wording.
The dialogue “Galey se lag gar” was also changed following the CBFC’s instructions.
Additional dialogue revisions were made in both halves of the film. These included replacing specific words and altering a reference connected to caste.
The certification process also resulted in changes to two intimate sequences. One of the scenes appears during the first half, while another occurs after the interval.
The CBFC directed the filmmakers to reduce the intimate portions by half through changes to both the visuals and accompanying audio.
Following the required edits, approximately 35 seconds of intimate content was removed from the final version of the film.
Interestingly, the certification process did not require the filmmakers to remove scenes involving violence or graphic imagery.
The ‘A’ certificate means the movie has been approved for adult audiences, making it unsuitable for viewers below the permitted age under India’s film certification rules.
The decision has attracted attention because Mirzapur is already a widely recognized franchise known for its intense storytelling, violence, strong language and mature themes.
The movie is expected to continue the story and characters associated with the popular Mirzapur universe, which has built a substantial following through its streaming series.
The certification changes demonstrate the scrutiny that major Indian productions can face before receiving theatrical approval, particularly when they contain mature content and sensitive dialogue.
With the CBFC review now completed, Mirzapur The Movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 4.
The final theatrical version will therefore reflect the modifications requested by the Revising Committee while retaining the majority of the film’s original content.
Fans of the franchise will now be waiting to see how the theatrical release translates the popular Mirzapur world onto the big screen after completing the certification process.
