Tennis icon Sania Mirza has spoken candidly about one of the most difficult phases of her life, sharing the emotional and practical challenges she faced after her divorce from former Pakistan cricket star Shoaib Malik.
In a recent conversation on an Indian YouTube channel, Sania discussed the overwhelming transition into single motherhood. Choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan, who joined the discussion, revealed that Sania has been navigating life as a single parent since the divorce, emphasizing that “there is no harder job than being a single parent.” She added that every individual must choose a path that is best for them, especially during life-altering situations.
Sania acknowledged that juggling the responsibilities of raising her son Izhaan, managing her career, and pursuing her studies has often left her physically and emotionally drained. Despite her public appearances and confident persona, she admitted there were moments of intense struggle that she preferred not to show on camera.
One particular day, Sania said she was overwhelmed with stress and on the verge of backing out of a live show. Farah Khan visited her set and encouraged her to continue, offering the support she needed at the right time. Farah later shared that she had never seen Sania experience a panic attack before and was deeply concerned for her friend.
Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik finalised their divorce in January 2024, ending a high-profile marriage that often made headlines in both India and Pakistan. The couple had married in 2010 and welcomed their son in 2018.
Since the separation, Sania has remained focused on her son and her professional endeavours, maintaining her privacy while occasionally opening up about the realities of life after a public breakup. Her willingness to speak about mental health, parental responsibilities, and personal resilience has earned widespread respect from fans across the region.
