Sooraj Pancholi Breaks Silence on Jiah Khan Case, Urges Responsible Media Reporting

Indian actor Sooraj Pancholi has spoken publicly about the long-running Jiah Khan case, urging media outlets and social media platforms to report the matter responsibly and avoid spreading claims that he says are misleading or unsupported by facts.

In a detailed statement shared on his Instagram account, Sooraj said he spent nearly 14 years fighting the case through the legal system before being acquitted. He emphasized that the court’s decision was based on evidence presented during the proceedings and the established legal process.

The actor added that all relevant court documents are publicly available for those who want to understand the facts of the case. He encouraged people to review official records rather than relying on speculation or incomplete narratives circulating online.

Reflecting on the events, Sooraj recalled that he was only 20 years old when the tragedy occurred and had known actress Jiah Khan for only a few months. He said he was too young at the time to fully understand the emotional challenges she may have been facing.

Sooraj described the incident as a life-changing moment that completely altered the direction of his personal and professional journey. He said the legal proceedings took away years that could have been spent building his career and personal life.

The actor explained that instead of focusing on his work and future, much of his twenties and thirties were spent dealing with the legal battle and attempting to clear his name. He described the experience as emotionally exhausting and extremely difficult.

Addressing his decision to remain silent for years, Sooraj said he chose not to publicly discuss Jiah Khan’s personal struggles or matters she had shared with him privately. He explained that his silence was motivated by a desire to respect her privacy and dignity.

However, he clarified that his decision to stay quiet should not be interpreted as acceptance of inaccurate reports or one-sided portrayals of the case. He requested journalists, content creators, and social media platforms to verify information before publishing material related to sensitive legal matters.

Sooraj said that while the case may appear as just another news story to some people, it represents a deeply personal chapter of his life. He added that misleading reports continue to reopen painful memories associated with the past.

The case dates back to 2013, when actress Jiah Khan was found dead at her Mumbai residence. Sooraj Pancholi was later accused of abetting her suicide, leading to a lengthy legal process.

In 2023, a special court acquitted Sooraj Pancholi, ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt. The actor has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.

Sooraj’s latest statement has renewed public discussion about media responsibility, online narratives, and the importance of allowing legal judgments and verified evidence to guide reporting in high-profile cases.
